On our first day of filming we met at Southend on Sea at 9am as we thought this would be a good time since not many people would be down there and the original idea for our opening was to film shots of the empty setting to make the protagonist seem more isolated to add to the story line from the off set.
We were originally planning to the film shots of different areas around Southend on Sea to set the scene and for the credits to appear over before going into the action. We checked the weather beforehand and saw it would be foggy at first which we felt would add to the eeriness that we wanted to create in our opening.
After filming some of the setting we went to a walkway by the top of Southend high-street that we looked up on google street view before hand when we were planning what we were going to film to check it was suitable for our film opening. We filmed the scene with our main character where he is shown running away from someone but you don't see who he is being chased by and then the cut to the character dead to build suspense and mystery making the audience want to carry on watching after the opening. We filmed this scene later on after we'd filmed the opening shots so the fog would have cleared to show that scene has taken place a bit later on in daylight where it is still secluded but more chance of other people appearing.
We brought the steady cam and used Rebecca's iPhone 5s to film on as it is what we had to use and has a good enough camera quality to film on. The actor in the scene came in jeans and hoodie which is what we wanted as it make him look casual and youngish to show the age he is meant to be, also dressing him in normal looking clothes makes him seem like an average person that the audience could relate to and emphasise with.
I love the way you think 9am will be quiet. Tsk. In your story, would the fog really have cleared in the duration of the chase??
